Big Dog Party

Big Dog Party

A Big Dog Party

This weekend I attended a big dog party. There were big dogs and little doge, black dogs and white dogs, red dogs and blue dogs – all going around and around! But not in cars.

Go Dog, Go! is probably my favorite children’s illustrated books. P. D. Eatsman was a fantastic illustrator. His Are You My Mother? is my other favorite. Are you familiar with the dog party at the end of Go Dog, Go!? If you haven’t read it, I won’t spoil your fun. Please find a copy, find a three year old, read this book out loud.

The dog party this weekend wasn’t nearly as glamorous as the one in the book, but there were ladder rides on a fire truck.

Fire Truck Ladder Rides!
I didn’t ride on the fire truck ladder. Fear of heights. And hot fire men. Did I say that out loud?

No Clowns Were Harmed

There was a clown making balloon animals and balloon hats:

Roy G. Biv, the name tag said - what's a big dog party without a clown?

There were pancakes and juice. And dogs!

Spotty Dog Party
This dog’s name is Cooper. I’ve forgotten what he is, besides pretty. He’s definitely pretty.

And more dogs!

Handsome Boxer
This boxer stole my heart. Do boxers slobber? If not, I want one. Now. Isn’t he gorgeous?

Omigoodness! I wandered around asking people if I could photograph their dogs. I didn’t tell them I was a dog blogger, I didn’t tell them anything – people were just pleased as punch that someone found their dog handsome enough to photograph. And they were all good looking at this big dog party. See?

Sitting Giant
This is Justin. Justin is an amazing creature. If he wasn’t the slobbering type, I probably would have figured out a way to steal him.

The dog party was a Saturday morning benefit at the local fire house. They were taking donations for Biscuit Acres, the dog park just behind the fire house. One of the local training groups, Hot Doggies, put on a little show for us:

Walking the dogs
The show began with the song, “Who Let the Dogs Out?” Pretty well choreographed. Gorgeous pups. These ladies do a fine job.

What I keep telling myself I need to do is to carry a bag of JNC Windee Rings in my purse for events like these. So many gorgeous pups looking for nummy treats!

White tatt dog
A dog with a tattoo?!? Isn’t this just the cutest thing?

What’s Happening Near You This Weekend?

Have you found dog related events in your area? Have you looked? You may be surprised at what you find. There doesn’t seem to be a lot happening in Tulsa in the next month, but in November there are agility trials. Or December. And I think the big dog show happens in the spring. I’m really excited about that one! I just know I’ll see more beauties like this:

Funny Dog
Why did the dog cross the road?
To get to the Jones Natural Chews!

Dude. It wasn’t that funny.

And this!

Crazy Dog
Omigoodness – these eyes crack me up! Don’t you just want to take this Aussie home?

The coup de grace – a medium sized dog which I mistook, from a distance, for an Australian shepherd, but which was clearly, close up, a Shetland Collie. The owner says she’s often asked if it’s an Aussie. This little girl is deaf and large for a Sheltie. Gorgeous.

Shetland Collie
This sweet girl responds to hand signals, since she can’t hear.

*sigh* So many dogs. So little time. And room in my house. And money for dog food. Especially for dog like this one:

Big Boy
The owner says this big boy is a Newfoundland. I say he’s beautiful. Tomato, tomahto.

Thank you for reading today’s gently recycled post. I’m heading out the door in a moment to look at a house. We’ve sold ours (closing at the end of October!), and need a new place to live. Paws crossed that today’s home is the ONE!

Spreading the good chews …

  1. Hey it’s Jet here. Hi Miss Flea.

Oh wow, what a great event for a super cause. Mom would have been up on the ladder, she likes stuff like that! Yes, you must carry treats, we K9s will give you EXTRA lovies!

Your photos reflect a great diversity, thanks for sharing your beautiful work. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • *blush* Well thanks, Jet! I became a member of Biscuit Acres instead, as well as signing up as a volunteer. I can hardly wait to do something! They’ll probably call and ask me to go scoop poop …

  2. Oh my goodness – I am trying to decide if I would be more afraid of the clown or of the ladder. (The clown – always the clown!)

    What great looking dogs!

I can’t wait til we have cooler weather for some more outdoor dog-related activities to start popping up around town!

    • My Hunny would be hard pressed to decide as well, but the clown would be his choice, too. Aren’t dog events great? I’m going to check and see if my babies are allowed into the state fair.
