Did you know that October is Adopt-a-Dog rescue month? I had no idea until yesterday, while dog blog hopping. Sadly, I don’t remember whose blog I was reading. She’s having a contest and everything. Gimme a sec …
It wasn’t Pixel Blue Eyes, though she posted a ton of rescue dog photos that her photo work helped get placed in forever homes. Woot!
It wasn’t BZ Training. Those dogs are GORGEOUS. But it wasn’t them.
It wasn’t Blog Paws, though they have a great post about October being Fire Safety Month.
Geez. What ISN’T October?
I don’t think it’s Dress Your Duck in a Bow Tie Month. Unless you count Halloween. Which I don’t. Because Jimmy is going to be a pirate for Halloween. Duh.
It wasn’t Mollie and Alfie. They’re doing SPOOOOOOKY things over there. Scary stuff.
It’s not Stella Rose and the Three Pugs, though they were collecting treats for shelter pugs, which is one the most awesome things a dog blogger can do. I hang my head in shame because I didn’t send treats. I’m going to have to make up for that by visiting my local shelters with treats. You can do that at any time, by the way. I give you permission.
It was Adventures of a Dog Mom! Emily is giving away prizes and everything! Shelter dogs need forever families, and Miss Emily is doing what she can to promote adoption, which gives me warm fuzzies. Adopt-a-Dog Month rocks the cat box.
And I’m getting ideas, in addition to warm fuzzies. The first idea is to get Petey, the duckling, off my keyboard so I can type. He’s chasing the cursor and the typed letters across the screen. I’m hoping he doesn’t poop on the keyboard.
The second idea is to have a contest myself, starting next week. I am not stealing the thunder of Adventures of a Dog Mom, since shelters and rescue dogs will be benefiting. Am I? Adopt-a-Dog is a wonderful idea!
I’ll be figuring out the rules and the treat prizes over the weekend. I really wish I could say that I’ll be adopting a dog over the weekend. My current dogs, duckling, five or six teens, and husband would all revolt. So – anyone out there want to adopt a few teenagers so I can get another dog or two?
I didn’t think so.
Here’s the deal, y’all – shelters need more than just people to adopt dogs and cats. They need volunteers. Call and ask, or drop in. Just a couple hours a month may be enough. They need donations. Maybe your local shelter needs blankets, towels, bleach, dog food, treats. Maybe just someone to pet and love on the pups. Maybe, like Pixel Blue Eyes does, your shelter needs someone to take good photos of the dogs so they don’t look so pathetic. Who wants to adopt a pathetic looking dog? (Me, but that’s another sad, dysfunctional story, eh?) Help out by taking pictures, making dogs look cute and adoptable.
The point is, you can help. I can help. I’ve been so wrapped up in my life that I haven’t taken the time to physically throw myself into helping in a shelter. That stops today. So next week, when I announce contest rules, I’ll also let you know what I’ll be doing to help locally.
I’ll leave you with a video. It’s not a dog. No, it’s Petey, of course. My Hunny discovered that if he does motor boat, or raspberry vibrations with his lips, Petey will play. Enjoy!
Until I write again …
